Unfortunate news as Angelina Jolie has mentioned that she will be taking a break from her acting career.
During the press conference for her latest movie, Maleficent, the actress mentioned that acting will be taking a bit of a back seat in her career. She expressed her gratitude for her successful career so far and mentioned that although there may be a few more films in the future, she is now able to be more selective with her roles and enjoy them more. Jolie also stated that she is eager to focus on writing and directing, as well as her work with the UN and the PSVI.
The actress has become well-known for her humanitarian work, serving as a special envoy to the UN and speaking out against Sexual violence. In addition to her advocacy work, she has also delved into directing, with her first film being “In the Land of Blood and Honey” in 2011. Her latest project, “Unbroken,” is a Second World War film written by the Coen brothers and is set to be released later this year. Despite her busy schedule, Angelina mentioned that her children enjoy watching movies starring her and her partner, Brad Pitt.
“The older kids were really entertained by the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith, they thought it was the most fun thing ever,” she shared. “Seeing your parents act as spies battling it out is definitely a unique childhood fantasy.” She also mentioned that her five-year-old son Knox is a big fan of the Tomb Raider series. “My youngest, Knox, watches Tomb Raider and believes that Mommy can do all those things. I’m looking forward to Maleficent because I think it’s a movie we can all enjoy together, and I know they will really like it.”
Maleficent mentioned that she plans to take her whole family to watch the new version of the classic fairy tale. Her children have already had a sneak peek and love Maleficent’s voice. She mentioned how being a part of the film brought out her inner child. Even though Angelina and Brad’s youngest daughter, Vivienne, appears in the film, Angelina expressed her reluctance for her children to pursue acting. She emphasized that they want their children to be happy and follow their own paths. Vivienne took on the role in the Disney film out of necessity when other children on set were scared. The release date for Maleficent in UK cinemas is on 28 May.
